A World War II vet returns home at the end of the war, only to find his former life in a state of disarray. Noah Locke (Chris Klein, AMERICAN PIE, WE WERE SOLDIERS) comes home to the tragic news that his parents have died, his younger brother has been imprisoned, and the family farm has been sold. Lost and alone, he goes on a journey of self-discovery, wandering the back roads of North Carolina in search of a place he can call home. On his travels, he meets a mysterious stranger who points him in the direction of a small mountain community known as the Valley of Light. There, Noah befriends a mute boy who has lost his father and is in desperate need of a father-figure. He also wins the affections of a young war widow (Gretchen Mol, THE SHAPE OF THINGS, SWEET AND LOWDOWN) who shares his loneliness and grief. Just as things start looking up for Noah, tragedy strikes the small community, forcing him to reconsider his plans. Based on a novel by Terry Kay, THE VALLEY OF LIGHT is a touching period drama that looks at the human toll of war and the fragility of the human spirit.
